DYFI protest against delay in issue of Ration Cards

15,000 people came together under the flag of Democratic Youth Federation of India, in Thiruppur to protest against the inordinate delay in the issue of ration cards in the district and the irregularities in the distribution of essential commodities through fair price shops on the 16th of August. The demonstration was held in front of the Kumaran Statue to express their displeasure over the issues.

The Government authorities and DMK ministers were proclaiming that ration cards will be issued in 45 days to 2 months time. But the actual fact is that the people are not at all getting the cards in the stipulated time. Mostly people living in dwellings and slums are the worst affected.

It is in this context that DYFI, Thiruppur district conference took place in August 1 and 2. The conference took stock of the situation and decided to launch militant struggle against this delay in issue of cards. It was on the basis of this decision that August 16 protest was organised. DYFI activists across the district went to each and every house and gave the message of the protest to the people and asked them to participate in the movement.

DYFI district secretary R. Vadivel said that the delay in the issue of cards had been depriving thousands of economically poor from availing the subsidised food grains.  DYFI State joint secretary A Bala, District president Adv. Y Anandan etc led the movement. The protest which started in morning lasted till 5 pm in the evening. Similar protest rallies were held in Avinashi, Kankayam and Udhumalai in the district. Various district  and local leaders of DYFI led the movement.
