CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Friday said the Left would seriously introspect about its failure in projecting its voice.
He was addressing a seminar on “The new
situations and the Left”, held here on Friday by Costford in memory of
former Chief Minister and CPIM General Secretary Com. E.M.S. Namboodiripad.
“We have
failed in projecting the Left alternative sufficiently and
comprehensively to be understood by the people. There is a gap between
the slogans that we raised, the demands we formulated and the type of
struggles we conducted out of them,” he said.
He
described Narendra Modi’s victory as a combination of neoliberalism and
Hindutva ideology. “Crores were spent on projecting him. He is a product
of corporate power and Hindutva agenda, supported by the bourgeoisie of
the country. We have witnessed a major change in Indian politics. We
have witnessed the second coming of Hindutva after 1991. We should draw
lessons from the election results,” he said.
