CPIM, TNUEF activists of Gudiyatham gets bail

CPIM, TNUEF leaders including Gudiyatham MLA G Latha and TNUEF state secretary P Sampath, who were were arrested for holding a demonstration against demolition of houses of Dalits and Muslims in Veloor district were released in bail on 17th August.

The struggle was launched for the resettlement Dalits and Muslims who were forcibly evicted by anti socials of real estate mafia with the support of the ruling DMK and government officials on the 12th of August. The anti socials demolished the dwelling places of 39 families of dalits and muslims who were living there for the past 100 years. The already settled dalit and muslim people were forcilble evicted by the real estate mafia with the help of police.The District Administration earlier assured to take action on the evictors and arrange for resettlement but become a mute spectator.In this context the TNUEF and CPIM launched a massive picketing struggle in front of Gudiyatham Taluk office demanding resettlement of evicted dalits and muslims on 12th August.Later the police arrested the leaders and 59 other activists including 16 women and remanded. They were charged with false cases.
Protest demonstration were held across the state against the highhandedness of the police against the cadres.
