CPI marchs Ahead in Hazaribagh - Jharkhand

“People’s power will prove its supremacy over money power,” said CPI national council secretary Amarjeet Kaur in a mammoth rally in the city and added, “Bhuwaneswar Prasad Mehta has emerged as the invincible leader of the masses. The third front is moving towards its victory determined to form government in the center.”

In Hazaribagh, thousands of people had assembled even from remote areas of the constituency to greet the CPI leader with garlands. They had turned the entire city red with banners and flags to mark the occasion of his filing nomination.

Bhuwaneswar Mehta is a joint candidate of the left front in the state and a sitting CPI member of parliament.

Out of the 14 contestants, Bhubneshwar Prasad Mehta had won the elections by defeating his nearest rival BJP candidate Yashwant Sinha by a margin of 105328 votes.in 2004 polls.

Addressing the rally, Bhubaneswar Mehta said that he had spent his life in an unrelenting struggle against the exploitation of the oppressed by the richer sections. He expressed his immense faith in the support extended to him by the people of the state.

Former MP and CPI national executive council member Ramendra Kumar said that the left unity would be a formidable challenge for the pro-BJP and pro-Congress forces.

The CPI(M) leader Gyan Shankar Mazumdar pointed out in the meeting that in the Congress rule, there was no old age pension nor BPL card. Among others present in the presidium were Mithilesh Kumar Singh, Mahendra Gandhi (Forward Block), Chandranath Bhai Patel (CPI-ML), former minister and CPI candidate from Giridih Akluram Mahato, CPI leaders Vidya Sagar Giri, Rajendra Yadav, Chandra Shekhar Jha, Women’s Federation leader Indramani Devi, Bhubaneswar Mahato, popularly known as Munnoo, and Raju Chaurasia. The meeting was conducted by assistant state secretary KD Singh.

There were several popular leaders from other parties who had joined CPI meanwhile Among them prominent were RJD leader and former Samajwadi Party leader and minister Akluram Mahato, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader and treasurer of the Ramgarh district party Bhubaneswar Mahato, block leader Mahesh Thakur, former RJD state secretary Bhuwaneswar Patel, Hazaribagh Congress leader Raju Chaurasia who had come to the folds of the CPI alongwith their supporters.

It may be interesting here to point out that Hazaribagh has a population of 1527,243 and has an average literacy rate of 76 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 per cent as per the 2001 census details.
There are 1180058 electors in this Hazaribagh constituency and 1186 polling stations.

Basant Narain Singh, M.S. Oberoi, Damodar Pandey, Yadunath pandey, Bhubaneshwar Prasad Mehta, Mahabir Lal Vishwakarma, Yashwant Sinha were the earlier members of Parliament elected from the Hazaribagh Lok Sabha Constituency.
Hazaribagh Central Jail is very well known for the fact that many leaders of the Indian freedom movement were put in like Rajendra Prasad. Jayaprakash Narayan, during the quit India movement, was arrested but the fact that he escaped from that prison is a great legend among the people even now.
Hazaribagh is well connected by bus transport, with Ranchi, Dhanbad, Patna, Gaya, Daltonganj, Koderma, Chatra and other major towns in around the area.
Local language of the area is the Magadhi dialect but Hindi is spoken everywhere. Santhali-speaking population is also there in the rural areas in small numbers. There are people settled here from Bengal, Rajasthan, Punjab and others. There is a small section of minority groups also here.

Hazaribagh city is a municipal town in the Hazaribagh district in the state of Jharkhand and the divisional headquarters of North Chota Nagpur division. This is also known as the land of thousand gardens since there are forests and also mango groves in the area.
