CPIM 20th Party congress begins


The 20th Party Congress of Communist party of India Marxist began today at Kozhikode, Kerala. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) which champions the high ideals of scientific socialism has been in the forefront of the fight  for the emancipation of the downtrodden of Indian soil, ever since its inception. The Party which is totally committed to Marxism- Leninism and proletarian internationalism has been surging ahead, fighting against the revisionist tendencies on the one hand and left adventurist aberrations on the other.
 
The Congress is attended by  734 delegates, 77 observers and 11 veteran leaders. For six days starting today, party delegates from across the country will brainstorm at  closed door sessions to chalk the future path and finalise three resolutions that will guide the party in the coming years - the political, the organisational and the ideological resolutions.  The congress will conclude April 9 with a 'Red Volunteer' march comprising 25,000 activists and a mass rally of more than 5 lakh.

The Conference delegate session proceedings began with the flag hoisting at the delegates hall named after Com. Harkishan Singh Surjeet and Com. Jyothi Basu (Calicut Town Hall) by one of the seniormost communist leader in India and CPIM CC Memberr Com. P Umanath. Later all delegates paid floral tributes to the martyrs who laid down their life for the cause of communism. Party General Secretary com. Prakash Karat was the first to pay the tributes after that member of the polit bureau paid the tributes. 

The opening session was presided over by Party P B member Com S Ramachandran Pillai.  CPIM Kerala State secretary and Organising committee chairman Com. Pinarayi Vijayan welcomed the delegates to the congress. Com S R P placed the Martyrs- Condolence resolution. The delegates stood up in silence for a minute to pay respect to the departed leaders and martyrs who have been fighting for a new India under communism. Com. Prakash Karat, General Secretary inaugurated the delegate session. In the opening session Com. A B Bardhan, leader of CPI addressed the delegates.

Presidium committee consisting of Comrades SRP (Chairman), Mohammed Salim, Sudha Sundarraman, M A Baby, P Ramayya, Khagandas, K P Gavit is  steering the proceedings of the congress. Later, after noon Com Prakash Karat placed the Political Resolution for discussion. 


Yesterday CPIM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan raised the red flag at a function held in Beach Kozhikode,  evening at 6 pm to begin the official proceedings of the historic 20th Party congress of the largest revolutionary party in India, the Communist Party of India Marxist.. Party general secretary Prakash Karat lit the martyrs torch at Tagore Hall.
