"My appeal to the government is to talk to all shades of opinion in Jammu and Kashmir. Find out where lies the problem so that all issues are redressed and settled," said CPIM Jammu Kashmir State Secretary and MLA Comrade Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami at a protest meet organised by SFI-DYFI in New Delhi.
"My suggestion is that it was also important to enter into a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan to improve the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Whatever the compulsions or provocation are, we must pursue the path of dialogue," he said.
Tarigami warned that if there is no dialogue, it will result in "helping, supporting and encouraging" those who perpetrate violence. He said prime minister Manmohan Singh should have visited Kashmir during the past one month and spoken to the common man there.
"Have they given up Kashmir? Are they insensitive? A parliamentary delegation must visit Kashmir to express some sort of sympathy," he said.
Tarigami criticized BJP who, according to him was justifying the excesses committed by the armed forces and advocating high handed means in the state. He said “these forces were a threat to the unity of the country.”

Without naming the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, he alleged, "nothing happened after promises were made to revoke or amend certain laws which were considered anti-people."
"They promised rehabilitation of displaced people. rejuvenating of economy which will open up opportunities for the unemployed youth. But nothing happened," he said, adding the recent protests were "the expression of anger accumulated". Addressing the protestors, Tarigami said the Centre should understand the sufferings and pains of Kashmiri people.
