DYFI 9th All India conference Begins in Bangalore


DYFI 9th All India Conference with the slogan "For a Better India, Empower Youth " has begun its proceedings with a huge youth rally in Bangalore.  Young people from different parts of Karnataka came to the garden city to be part of the huge rally. The rally started from the City Railway station premises at 12 noon. Cultural troops and traditional art forms of Karnataka added colour to the rally. The Public meeting started by 1 PM at the Freedom park, where the venue was named Com. Captain Lakshmi Nagar. CPIM PB member Com. Sitaram Yechury Inaugurated the public rally. DYFI All India President Com. P Sreeramakrishnan presided over the function. CPIM P B Member, Com. M A Baby, CPIM Karnataka State Secretary Com. G V Sreeramareddy, DYFI All India Secretary Com. Tapan Sinha spoke on the ocassion. DYFI Karanataka State Secretary Com. B Rajasekhara Moorthi welcomed the participants. 

The conference was officially declared open with the hoisting of organisation flag at the Delegate Session Hall named after Rabindra Nath Tagore by Com. P Sreeramakrishnan. The Delegate Session was inaugurated in the evening (5pm) by noted Film Director and cultural activist Sri. Shyam Benagal. Comrades Sitaram Yechury, M A Baby, Tapan Sinha were present in the dias.

Mr. Benegal exhorted the audience to use their energies to work towards greater social good. “We have the great demographic dividend of having large number of youth in our country, presently, but of what use is that if their energies are not channelised towards pro-active work,” he asked. He cited the example of the late Verghese Kurien as someone whose work had a profound impact on the ground.
 
Amid resounding applause, writer and activist Baragur Ramachandrappa summed up the mood when he told the young audience to emulate revolutionaries such as Bhagat Singh by using their ideas and power to “end the miseries of capitalist wars”. He asked them to reclaim the legacy of Bhagat Singh and Swami Vivekananda, both personalities that have been “falsely appropriated” by the political rightwing in the country. 

The DYFI conference also felicitated many leading figured from fields ranging from literature to sports and art.Among those felicitated were musician R.K. Srikantan, Baragur Ramachandrappa, singer Kavita Krishnamurthy, violinist L. Subrahmanyam, artist S.G. Vasudev, writer Sara Aboobaker, writer K. Marulasidappa, Yakshagana artiste J. Venkatesh Rao, Paralympic athlete C.V. Rajanna, folk singer Janardhan, basketball player Kritika Lakshman and environmentalist Nagesh Hegde.

Over 750 delegates from 24 States, and at least five countries,are attending the conference.

All India Secretary Com. Tapan Sinha will place the organisational report today which will be discussed for the coming two days. It is for the first time that Bangalore is hosting a national level conference of DYFI.
