Call to prevent plundering of education sector : SFI National Conference Concludes


The 14th All India conference of the Students Federation of India (SFI) has given a clarion call to the people to wage a battle against commercialisation of education and prevent plundering of education sector by corporate players and businessmen. Opposing centralisation of education tooth and nail, the SFI national meet appealed to people of all walks of life to resist commercialisation and fight for democratic rights blended with equitable access for all sections of society. 

The conference concluded with the election of its office bearers and the central committee. Com Sivadasan (Kerala) has been elected the All India President and Com. Ritabrata Banarjee (West Bengal) has been elected the All India Secretary. Both were unanimously elected at the first meeting of the newly elected Central Executive Committee.  Comrades K S Kanakaraj (Tamil Nadu) Abida Hussain (Rajastan), Nilanjana Roy (Tripura) Madhuja Senroy (WB) Shiju Khan (Kerala) Noor Mohammed (AP) were elected Vice Presidents. Comrades Vikram Singh (Himachal Pradesh) Debjyothi Das (WB) T B Bineesh (Kerala) Lakhmayya (AP) Sathroop Ghosh (WB) were elected joint secretaries.  Comrades Ananth Naik, Kapil Bharadwaj, Koppal are elected as the Central Secreteriate members. 

The Conference also passed various resolutions regarding the educational sector in the country.


DYFI all India conference in Bangalore from September 11



 
Democratic Youth Federation of India will hold its ninth all India conference here from September 11 to 15 in the garden city of Bangalore. The event would be inaugurated by renowned film maker Shyam Benegal. 800 young delegates from various part of the country will participate in the conference. It is for the first time that Bangalore is hosting a national conference of DYFI after its formation. An youth rally reflecting the growth of Democratic youth federation in the state of Karnataka is organised on the 11th of September. The rally will begin at 11 AM from the City Railway station compound. CPIM P B member Com. Sitaram Yechury will inaugurate the youth rally.  CPIM P B member and Kerala Minister M A Baby, and social activist Mallika Sarabhai, will also speak on the ocassion. The rally will conclude at the Freedom Park ground, where the public meeting is scheduled. 

Famous painters will organise an exhibition near the conference venue. The exhibition will be inaugurated on September 10 by noted painter Vasudev. Anti Imperialist photo exhibition is also organised as part of the conference.
 
Flagpole, -Flag - Torch jathas will start from September 8th. The flag will be brought from the land of Koothuparamba Martyrs in Kannur. The flag jatha which is to be lead by DYFI Maharashtra State Secretary Com. Preethy Sekhar will be inaugurated by CPIM C C Member and LDF convenor com. Vaikom Viswan. The Flag pole jatha will be lead by All India Joint Secretary Com. Sailender Kamble from Chennai. The Martyrs torch from Chikabellapur will be led by Com. Srinivasa Reddy, DYFI Chikbellapur District Secretary. The jatha's will converge on 10th September at Mysore Bank Circle. The conference would discuss, among others, issues relating to education and umemployment facing the country's youth.
