CPI(M) demands CBI probe into land denotification in Karnataka

The State unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday demanded that the State Government hand over the investigation of the entire denotification of lands to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to dig out the truth and prosecute the guilty.

Addressing presspersons here, State secretariat member of the CPI(M) Nityanandaswamy said the State Government's decision to order a judicial probe into the charges of nepotism and misuse of official position to help the kin of politicians while denotifying prime lands acquired for different purposes, would not serve any purpose.

He said that judicial inquiry was only a process which served the purpose of the guilty and the inquiry panel could only recommend to the government about its findings on the complaints referred to it and did not have powers prosecute those found guilty.
Powers. “The CBI which has powers to prosecute the guilty will be an effective agency and take the issue to a logical end.” Mr. Nityanandaswamy said that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who is facing serious allegations on the denotification issue of helping his sons and other family members had no moral right to continue in office.
Toll on development

“The Chief Minister has conceded that the charges levelled against him on the denotification issue and allotment of the BDA sites were true by stating that he would not repeat the same mistakes in future,” he said. The political instability in the State had taken a toll on development activities with the Chief Minister and his ministerial colleagues busy safeguarding their political future, he said.

Campaign
Mr. Nityanandaswamy said that the administration in the State had totally collapsed. He said that the CPI(M), which had launched a “save democracy campaign” in Bangalore on November 13 would take the movement to the grassroots by organising jathas and street-corner meetings in all the villages to expose the political instability and the nepotism and blatant misuse of power by the Chief Minister to help his relatives.
