CPIM forms seperate committes for Seemandhra and Telangana

In the context of the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Bill being passed and given assent to by the President of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has formed two separate committees for the two states. The Telangana state committee of the Party has been formed with 42 members and the Andhra Pradesh state committee of the Party with 44 members.

Thammineni Veerabhadram has been elected as the CPI(M) Telangana state secretary, with S Veeraiah, S Malla Reddy, G Nagaiah, Ch Seetharamulu and Chukka Ramulu as state secretariat members.

Penumalli Madhu has been elected as the CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh state secretary with P Ramulu, M A Gafoor, S Punyavati, V Krishnaiah, Y Venkateshwara Rao, Ch Narsingha Rao and Midiyam Babu Rao as state secretariat members.

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member B V Raghavulu made these announcements at a press conference on March 8 in the presence of both the new state secretaries. Earlier in the day the state committee held its meeting in M B Bhavan. CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat, Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury and central secretariat member V Sreenivasa Rao attended the meeting from all India centre.

Raghavulu also announced the intention of the Party to contest from 6 Lok Sabha and 33 assembly constituencies in the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh, as which entity it will remain till June 2. Responding to a question, the CPI(M) leader said that the Party can consider allying with any party that is not allied with either Congress or BJP. If there is an alliance, the number of seats the Party intends to contest may come down and if there is no alliance the number may rise, he said.
