The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday demanded an early solution to the separate Telangana issue. The party accused the Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of keeping Telangana backward. CPI (M) leaders said both the parties had kept the issue burning instead of finding a solution. This has pushed the region towards backwardness, they said.
At a public meeting organised by the CPI (M) in connection with its two-day Adilabad district conference, MLC and party's State secretariat member Ch. Seetharamulu severely criticised the United Progressive Alliance government for its policies. He said rapid globalisation had brought extreme corruption and imposed hardship on people through inflation. Mr. Seetharamulu said the anti-people's policies of the State government had seen a decrease in funding for welfare programmes. He said the government effected cuts in scholarships to students and pensions which adversely affected the poor and the downtrodden.
Earlier, the CPI (M) organised a rally in town. While CPI (M) district secretary Bandi Dattatri presided over the meeting, State secretariat member S. Veeraiah, State Council members Lanka Raghavulu and M. Sai Babu, AIDWA State president Jyothi and CITU leader D. Mallesh participated.
