CPI (M) condemns attack on Tiruvottiyur Municipal Chairman

The State committee of the CPI (M) on Wednesday condemned the attack on Tiruvottiyur Municipal Chairman R. Jayaraman and party councillor Nagarajan, allegedly by DMK councillors, at the council meeting.
CPI (M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan said Mr. Jayaraman was targeted because he exposed the “indifferent attitude” of the State government towards execution of development works in the municipality.
The underground drainage was yet to be completed though the foundation stone for project was laid on May 8, 2007 and Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had announced that the work would be completed in 18 months.
There was a delay in appointing sanitary workers and linemen to maintain electric lights. “Since Mr. Jayaraman campaigned against the government, the DMK councillors targeted him,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said, explaining the resolution adopted at the State secretariat meeting.
