CPI(M) Greets CPC on its Eighteenth Congress

The following is the text of the greetings sent by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on November 5, 2012 on the occasion of its 18th  Congress

Dear Comrades,

THE Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) extends its warm fraternal communist greetings to the 18th Congress of the Communist Party of China. We hope that the deliberations of this Congress will further consolidate the process of socialist construction in China.

The 18th Congress of the CPC is taking place at a crucial juncture. The entire world is reeling under the affects of global economic crisis. Unemployment, poverty, inequalities and hunger are on the rise. What has started as corporate insolvency has now got converted into full fledged sovereign insolvency. Many countries in Euro zone are under severe duress. The very sustainability of European Union is now under question.

Imperialism is trying to come out of this crisis by transferring the burdens of the crisis on to the people of the third world countries. It is using all the means at its disposal – military, economic, political – to ensure that it retains its hegemony over the world. People in many of the countries, both the developed and developing, are coming out in protest against the increasing burdens on their livelihoods.

US has identified Asia-Pacific region as crucial to sustain its hegemony. As the recent documents of the US show, it is planning to deploy 60 per cent of its naval force in the Asia-Pacific region. NATO is expanding its influence to many regions of the world. The involvement of NATO forces in the war in Afghanistan, in Libya and now in Syria all point to the growing aggressiveness of imperialism to control the world natural resources. It is in such a complex international situation that the 18th Congress of the CPC is taking place.

The CPI(M) has been keenly following the developments taking place in China. It notes the impressive economic advances made by China. The measures adopted by the CPC for ensuring harmonious development of the Chinese society, reduce the income inequalities and fight corruption and other alien tendencies are watched with immense interest.

The 18th Congress of the CPC is being held at a crucial stage of China's endeavour in building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round manner while facing the challenges of deepening reform and opening-up and accelerating the transformation of economic development pattern. The CPI(M) is confident that the deliberations of the 18th Congress of the CPC will facilitate the further growth and consolidation of socialism in China, upholding the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

The CPI(M) is confident that the relations between the peoples of China and India will continue to improve and this, in turn, will contribute to bringing peace and stability in the region. The continuing close fraternal relations between the CPI(M) and the CPC, we are confident, will be further strengthened in the future, contributing to this process.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) once again wishes the 18th Congress of the Communist Party of China all success and conveys its fraternal greetings to all delegates.

Revolutionary Tribute to Com. Samar Mukherjee in His Birth Centenary

He was born exactly 4 years back from the occurrence of the Great October Revolution in Russia in the year 1917. He has devoted his whole life for the cause of Socialist revolution in India, for the cause of the workers and peasants and the cause of the deprived people of the country as a whole. He has travelled 100 years of journey of his life after crossing the long path of revolutionary tradition and its legacy. Comrade Jyoti Basu described him as ‘The God’s Own man’ because of his perfection in all respect of life and work. He is none other than Comrade Samar Mukherjee, The Living History of the Communist and Left Movement in India. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) West Bengal State Committee has paid a revolutionary tribute to this living legend on the very special occasion of his birth centenary on 7th November 2012 at a program held in Dilkhusha Street Party Commune. Comrade Samar Mukherjee was born on 7th November 1913 participated actively in freedom struggle and became member of Pradesh Congress Committee during. Later being attracted to the Communist Ideologies he became a member of Communist Party in 1940. Since then he remained Polit Bureau member of the party, Chairman, Central Control Commission, party leader in the Parliament, and General Secretary CITU etc. He still remains an invitee member to the party Central Committee.


While conveying his message in the meeting Comrade Prakash Karat, The General Secretary of the Party has remembered those words of comrade Jyoti Basu about Comrade Samar Mukherjee. Comrade Prakash Karat said that he first met comrade Samar Mukherjee in the year 1971 when he used to work at Party’s Parliamentary office and Comrade A. K. Gopalan was the then leader of the party in Lok Sabha and Comrade Mukherjee was then deputy leader in Lok Sabha. Comrade Samar Mukherjee has created an example of sincerity and dedication throughout his political life. He joined India’s Struggle for Independence as a student and he became a member of the Communist Party in the year 1940. Since then his life is being dedicated to the Communist Movement of the Country. He played an important role to build up the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the year 1964 and Centre for Indian Trade Unions.

By remembering one of his dedications towards the party comrade Karat said that Comrade Samar Mukherjee used to save his money for the party and he used to come to the party office and donate that money for the Party. He never used to spend money for his own cause. This is one of the examples of the revolutionary practices of Comrade Samar Mukherjee. Comrade Karat also recalled the role of comrade Mukherjee to protect the civil liberties at the time of emergency. His faith and conviction towards Marxism and Leninism remained the same after Soviet Union was dismantled. Comrade Karat wished Comrade Samar Mukherjee to spend many more years among his comrades to give them inspiration, courage and to give them opportunity to learn from his revolutionary path. Comrade Biman Basu, the Secretary of the Party’ recalled the journey of comrade Samar Mukherjee from a freedom fighter to a leader of the Communist Movement of India. He said that Comrade Samar Mukherjee was one of the architects of Refugee Movement in West Bengal and also the one of the makers of historical railway strike in the year 1974. Among the other the Forward Block Leader Comrade Ashoke Ghosh addressed the gathering. 7th November 2012 is a significant day not only in the history of the Communist Movement but for the Left movement as a whole.

CPI (M) MLAs visit Dalit colonies in Dharmapuri

A team of Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLAs and an MP has blamed the November 7 attack by caste Hindus on three Dalit colonies in Dharmapuri on a host of factors, including intelligence failure and the authorities not cracking down on kangaroo courts.

Coimbatore MP P.R. Natarjan, MLAs K. Balakrishnan (Chidambaram), P. Dillibabu (Harur) and K. Beemrao (Maduravoyal) visited the colonies and consoled the affected people on Saturday. They distributed mats, rice and other materials worth Rs. 2.5 lakh to the affected families.

They told reporters that the attack could not be prevented because of the total failure of the intelligence. They alleged that an inflammatory speech by PMK leader J. Guru a month ago at a public meeting in Naikkankottai encouraged caste Hindus to indulge in violence against the Dalits. The team referred to the allegation that a kangaroo court ordered that the marriage of the Dalit youth with the caste Hindu girl be called off.

The attack seemed to have been well-organised. Hence, the police should take action against those responsible under the SCs/ STs (Prevention of Crime) Act.

The Government should build new houses for the affected families. The exact loss they suffered should be calculated and appropriate compensation should be given. Adequate police protection also should be provided. The children should be provided with books, uniforms and the certificates they had lost in the fire. Families should be issued fresh ration cards as these too were destroyed.

The CPI (M) would submit its report on the visit and assessment of damage to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa soon. Office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front were part of the team.

18th CPC National Congress: A crucial event for China

The 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China set to kick off on Nov. 8 will provide a crucial window into the direction of China in the next five years or a longer period. In this election year for many countries, the world is paying close attention to the CPC’s latest moves, and is curious to know how it will judge the situation, continue to lead China along the path of peaceful rise, and influence global landscapes.

At present, the world economy hit hard by the global financial crisis is still struggling to recover, and China is entering a new historical stage of transforming its economic growth model, deepening reforms, and building a well-off society in an all-round way after more than 30 years of miraculously rapid economic growth thanks to the Reform and Opening-up. The 18th National Congress of the CPC will be a crucial event concerning China’s fate.

Over the past 30 odd years of rapid economic growth, particularly since the 16th and 17th CPC national congresses, China has gained a raft of titles such as “the world’s most populous country,” “the world’s second largest economy,” “a new member of the World Trade Organization,” “the world’s factory,” “a stabilizer of the world economy,” “a new engine for the world economic recovery,” and “the world’s largest exporter and second largest importer.” CPC national congresses have become the crucial links guiding and promoting China’s development and changes.

China is facing unprecedented opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, it aims to build an all-round well-off society by 2020, or the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Party, so the time after the 18th CPC National Congress will be particularly crucial. The CPC enjoys a solid foundation for governance and massive public support, and has continued to promote the Reform and Opening-up. China is still in the middle of industrialization, informationization, urbanization, and agricultural modernization, and thus has huge potential for steady development and peaceful rise. 

On the other hand, the country is also facing many difficulties and problems, including increased economic downward pressure. Authoritative research institutions said that China was approaching the end of the miraculous era of nearly double-digit growth. There are still certain systematic and structural problems affecting the long-term healthy development of Chinese society and economy, and the reforms in certain key areas remain timid.

At the 18th national congress, the Party needs to figure out how it will draw on past invaluable experience, open up a path of innovation, meet the people’s needs, solve problems concerning the people’s vital interests, and introduce more suitable policies at the macro and micro levels for improving the people’s living standards.

China is faced with new challenges in handling relations with the big countries, developing countries and its neighbors. In the era of economic globalization, China must map out a new strategy to continue the road of peaceful development, meanwhile avoiding risks and seizing opportunities. Now, China occupies such an important status in the world that a slight change will impact the entire world.

In the face of new problems and challenges, as well as new situation and expectation, China will develop new measures and methods on the occasion of convening the 18th National Congress of the CPC, preparing for further development.

People are looking forward to the convening of the 18th National Congress of the CPC because it may mean the new beginning of a great revolution to China and even the world.

Anganwadi Workers paint the city of Mysore to Red

Anganawadi workers of the Karnataka painted the city of Mysore to red today by taking out a mammoth procession dressed in red sarees, white blouses and red caps from the Gun House Circle to the Scouts and Guides ground, the venue of the fifth State-level convention of Anganawadi workers that began this afternoon and will be held for three days. The colourful procession, consisting of more than 6,000 women volunteers drawn from all over the State, passed through Maharaja Sanskrit College, Chamaraja Double Road, Ramaswamy Circle, Ekalavya Circle and Krishnaraja Boulevard, to reach the Scouts and Guides grounds behind the DC’s office in city. The three-day convention was formally inaugurated by CPI(M) PB Member Com Brinda Karat, at the specially erected Comrade M.K. Pandhe Nagar. General Secretary of All India Anganawadi Workers’ Association K. Hemalatha, CITU State President V.G.K. Nair, Rangayana’s former Director C. Basavalingaiah, former Legislator and CPI(M) State Secretary G.V. Srirama Reddy, CITU General Secretary S. Prasanna Kumar, Karnataka State Anganawadi Workers’ Association General Secretary S. Varalakshmi and others participated in the function. The convention is presided over by the President of State Anganawadi Workers’ Association, Shantha N. Ghanti. Comrade Brinda Karat criticised the Congress and the BJP for ignoring the condition of anganwadi workers, who implement all the welfare programmes of the government at the grass roots. Com. Brinda said though the Committee on Empowerment of Women comprising members of Parliament recommended that the workers be accorded the status of government employees, the UPA government rejected the proposal.  Describing the Congress and the BJP as two sides of a “fake coin,” Ms. Karat said both parties pursued the same policy of ‘appeasing the rich, the mining barons and the land mafia’ and had no concern for the working class people. “While more than Rs. 5 lakh crore has been given away by way of tax concessions, etc. to the rich and the wealthy in last year’s budget, the government says it has no money to increase the emoluments of the anganwadi workers from Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 10,000, provide pensionary benefits and bonus as recommended by the Empowerment Committee,” said Ms. Karat. While the Congress rejected the proposal, even the main Opposition remained silent on the issue, she added. The anganwadi women were employed in 36 categories of services, including implementation of the Integrated Child Development Scheme which was critical in the battle against malnutrition. “The struggle to strengthen and economically empower the anganwadi workers is linked to the struggle against malnutrition and poverty,” she said. . The malnutrition level in rural Karnataka was as high as 61 per cent, said Ms. Karat, but the BJP government had not strengthened the hands of the anganwadi workers. “The struggle of the anganwadi workers is also linked to fighting the wrong policies of the Congress-led UPA at the Centre and the BJP in the State which are fuelling price rise, inflation and poverty,” she added.  K. Hemalatha, general secretary, All India Anganwadi Workers Association, flayed the State government for outsourcing some of the functions of the anganwadi centres by tying up with corporate houses and companies. “This would put a question mark on the very existence of the anganwadi centres,” she added. The three-day conference is being attended by 430 delegates from across the State, apart from national leaders. In the coming two days, seminars will be held at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry on Vinobha Road, in which problems being faced by the Anganawadi workers and their demands would be discussed in detail. Their demands include regularisation of services, providing benefits on par with benefits given to State government employees and conversion of Anganawadi Centres into care-taking centres for pregnant women, children below the age of six years and strengthening of the Anganawadi Centres to become Child Welfare Centres, besides conversion of Anganawadi Centres into centres for educating children.

CPIM campaign to expose the communal agenda of RSS in Karnataka

The State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxists) Com G.V. Sriram Reddy, said at Mangalore on Tuesday that the Sangh Parivar is using the State’s coastal region, particularly Dakshina Kannada, as a “laboratory” for its communal experiments.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of a workshop on communalism held by the party.

Mr. Reddy said Dakshina Kannada and the coastal region had a tradition of fighting injustice but the communal forces were gaining strength in the region with guidance from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and supported by the chief of Pejawar math, who pretended to be a supporter of Dalit cause by undertaking padayatra.

After Dakshina Kannada, Kerala was the laboratory for the BJP to experiment its communal agenda. The CPI (M) was against all types of communalism, whether of majority or minority, and was against fundamentalism. Unlike the Congress, which pursues votes based on religion, there was no such worry for the CPI (M), which was very that it had nothing to do with religion, he said. The BJP government had impoverished the State and was “a government on a ventilator”, whose lifeline could be pulled anytime by the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. He said the government was communal, impoverished, and was saffronising education.

He said that a majority communalism was an issue throughout the State. As an example, he spoke about the instance of violence in Hubli following the issue of cow slaughter. Police officers, who were supposed to protect the law, were seen apologising to the wrongdoers. It showed the extent to which the BJP had used the police.He said the seeds of communalism were sown when L.K. Advani became the Minister for Information and Broadcasting.It was after this that the ‘Ramayana’ teleserial was aired on TV and the Ramjanambhoomi issue came up, he alleged. 

Several communal events had taken place in Sindgi, Belgaum, where two people lost their lives, and in Koppal, Hubli and Chintamani, he alleged. He questioned the police for filing a B report against RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for, what Mr. Reddy alleged, his provocative speech made in Uppinangady sometime ago.

In Udupi, in 2005, violence broke out against minorities but no one was sent to jail. Action was not taken against the wrongdoers in the homestay attack case, he alleged. In Bangalore, garbage had not been collected for so many days and the issue had been highlighted in the U.S. media. If a government could not clear garbage in a city, it could not do much elsewhere, he said. So much communal incidents were taking place in Dakshina Kannada but the government had done nothing to prevent such incidents. The situation had arisen in the State because of the BJP government, he said. 

K.R. Sriyan, CPI(M) Dakshina Kannada District Secretariat Member, said on the one hand, there was majority communalism, on the other hand, there was minority communalism.

The CPI(M) will launch State-wide protests against made snana at Kukke Subrahmanya Temple and against pankthi bedha (serving meals separately to Brahmins), which is supported by the BJP government, in December, said State Secretary of the party G.V. Sriram Reddy. He said a vehicle procession would be taken out from the Temple Town to Mangalore. Another vehicle procession to protest against pankthi bedha from Byndoor would end at Udupi temple. A politcal ‘jaatha’ will be held against BJP on November 20 at Basavakalyan, Ramdurg and Belgaum. — Special Correspondent

Speaking at a media meet on Monday, Oct 29, CPI(M) State Secretariat Member and Raita Sangha leader Maruti Manpade levelled a serious charge that the BJP, which was currently undergoing a turmoil, had been planning a series of communal disturbances in the state to strengthen its vote-bank in preparation of the assembly polls.

He cited the recent instances of the RSS workers obstructing Bakrid celebrations in 15 places in the state and  attack on a church in Davanagere. Similarly, RSS workers stole the Ganesh idol to implicate people of another faith, but fortunately for the people of the state, the conspiracy was busted by the police in time. The RSS workers had since been arrested, he said.

He also said that on Oct 26, the police had taken strict action against trouble-makers in old Hubli area. But when the RSS workers sat in dharna in front of the police station, the police commissioner himself went to Keshav Kunj, the RSS office, to apologize to the organization's leaders. It was just like a surrender by the police to the RSS, he said.

Manpade further said this incident, which had taken place in the chief minister's home district, wherein an IPS officer went to apologize to the RSS leaders in their own office, was highly condemnable. The governor of the state should intervene in the matter and seek an explanation from the police commissioner, he added.

Another leader of the party, V G K Nair, said that these disturbances were also being engineered to divert the people's attention away from the Haveri convention being organized by former chief minister Yeddyurappa.

To create an awareness among the people about the failure of both Union and state governments and their anti-people policies, two jathas would set out from Ramadurg in Belgaum (on Nov 18) and Basavakalyan (on Nov 19) to Bangalore, scheduled to reach Bangalore on Dec 3. Party's national secretary general Prakash Karat would take part in it, said Nair.

14-day Padayatra by CPIM Khammam District committee flagged off

CPIM Andhra Pradesh State secretary and PB member Com. B V Raghvulu flagged off the 14 day ‘Sagu Neeti Sadhana Maha Rytu Padayatra’ led by the CPIM Khammam District committee for the implementation of various projects and to voice against the antipeople measures of state and central congress government. Party district secretary P Sudarshan presided over the inaugural function on the banks of the Godavari near Dummugudem on Sunday. The party central committee member T Veerabhadram, former MP Midiyam Babu Rao, and former MLAs Sunnam Rajaiah and Kunja Bujji were those present.

An overwhelming number of over 1,000 party workers and leaders clad in green shirts embarked on the 300-km-long Maha Padayatra in 18 mandals to press for allocation of Rs 10,000 crore for early completion of the pending irrigation projects mainly the Dummugudem (Rajiv Sagar) lift irrigation scheme in the district.

CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu has demanded the government cancel the “corruption- ridden Jalayagnam” and announce a new water policy in the next budget session of the Assembly to ensure expeditious completion of the need-based irrigation projects with a thrust on the upland and drought-prone areas in the State.

Addressing a huge gathering of the party cadres, including farmers at the venue adjoining the Sir Arthur Cotton canal, Mr Raghavulu alleged that the Jalayagnam had failed to create any additional ayacut as assured in spite of spending over Rs 65,000 crore under the programme till now. “The lapses pointed out by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in the implementation of the Jalayagnam and the allegations of large scale irregularities made by none other than the ruling party leaders vindicated our earlier charge that it was a ‘Dhana Yagnam’,” he said.

The corruption ridden programme should be cancelled forthwith and a comprehensive water policy should be evolved to complete the irrigation projects with a pragmatic approach, he demanded asking the other parties to spell out their stand on the issue.

Khammam district deserves top priority in irrigation sector in view of a major chunk of tribal population, he said.

He lashed out at the government for allegedly spending crores of rupees on the Dummugudem-Nagarjunasagar tail pond link canal and Polavaram projects in an unproductive manner detrimental to the interests of the farmers in the district. He appealed to other parties to extend their support to the Rythu Padayatra to espouse the cause of farmers.

CPIM leaders campaign in Himachal Pradesh

Representing an emerging third force and a new state-wide alternative through Himachal Lok Morcha, CPI(M) PB members Sitaram Yechury and Brinda Karat are campaigning in Himachal Pradesh, specially in constituencies in and nearing Shimla district.

Sitaram Yechury, addressing two rallies on the 30th, first at Chota Shimla and second at Sanjauli Chouk, canvassed for two CPI(M) candidates, Tikender Singh Panwar and Kuldeep Singh Tanvar, contesting from two city constituencies of Shimla-City and Kusumpty. After it's historic win in Shimla Municipal corporation, just a few months back winning both Mayor and Deputy-Mayorships in first direct election with huge margins, CPI(M) is considered having a definite advantage on these two seats. Five wards of Shimla Corporation constitute urban part of Kusumpty assembly constituency. Four of these wards gave big leads to CPI(M) while in fifth it was left behind by only a few votes. Tikender Panwar, is presently Deputy-Mayor of Shimla.

Yechury addressing very receptive crowds underlined that fact that Congress and BJP are indistinguishable not only in their policies but also in their practices, including corruption. For first time people of Himachal have an opportunity of opting really for some change and not having to alternatively choose and reject out of two more or less similar parties. He also pointed out how Congress-led UPA government's policies like FDI in  retail and privatisation cum invitation to foreign investment in Pension Funds and Insurance are sure recipes of disaster for people. But BJP's government in Himachal has also pushed in the same direction by reckless privatisation of Education and Health services.

Addressing both the rallies with people of both the constituencies, Tikender Panvar underlined that the good work done by the newly-elected Shimla Corporation can only be consolidated through CPI(M)'s representation in State Assembly as only that can change the anti-people steps of state government like water privatisation, though currently corporation has blocked the same.

 

Same day Brinda Karat addressed well attended meetings at Koti area under Kusumpty assembly constituency. Before this on 29th, she addressed a big rally at Darlaghat, campaigning for CPI(M) candidate from Arki assembly segment, Ramkrishna Sharma. Darlaghat also known for it's Ambuja Cement factory, has strong Left influence. She is campaigning on 31st in Theog for CPI(M) candidate and Party state secretary, Rakesh Singha. This rural seat of Apple rich belt of Shimla district is threatening to surprise both Congress and BJP. Sitaram Yechury continues to campaign in the coming days in two constituencies of  Shimla city. This includes a noontime meeting at government offices centre, SDA complex.   

CPIM Dharna against sexual violence on women

 

Several hundred activists of the Delhi state committee of CPI (M) held a protest dharna on 30th October at Jantar Mantar against the rising cases of sexual violence against the women and children throughout the country.

The dharna was addressed by Prakash Karat, General Secretary, CPI (M), P.M.S. Grewal, Secretary, Delhi State Committee of CPI (M) and other leaders including Asha Sharma, Nathu Prasad, Jagdish Chand, Sonia Verma (all Party State Committee members), Maimoona Mollah (JMS), Sunand (SFI), Kamala (CITU) and G. Mamatha (People’s Democracy). Vijender Sharma, State Secretariat member of the CPI (M), presided.

Prakash Karat pointed to the big increase in the cases of rapes and sexual violence against women throughout the country in the recent past. Children and young women have been the biggest victims. Governments throughout the country have not only failed to tackle these cases; but in many instances the administration, police and state machinery actually ensure that the victim is not even able to lodge a complaint. There is thus an urgent need of an effective law against sexual harassment. However successive central governments have failed to enact such a legislation. The CPI (M) will continue to mount pressure on the UPA government to ensure that such a bill is enacted in the winter session of the parliament.

Prakash Karat also stressed that laws alone will not be enough to curb violence against women. Simultaneously there is an urgent need to combat the retrograde and anti-women values that dominate society.

Various speakers also pointed the need to take this issue right to the level of mohallas, and ensure effective resistance to these regressive acts of violence.

Later a memorandum concerning increased violence against women was submitted to the Union Minister of Home Affairs. 

 

Similar  dharnas and protest meetings were held across the country against the rise in sexual violence on the women.

CPI(M) to observe the Birth Centenary of Samar Mukherjee

The CPI(M) West Bengal state committee has decided to observe the 100th birthday of the centenarian leader Samar Mukherjee. The General Secretary of the party Prakash Karat and state leaders of Left Front will also be present in that occasion. While addressing the press the Left Front Chairman and Secretary CPI(M) state committee Biman Basu announced the programme and also invited left leaderships to attend the programme.

Basu while explaining the decision to observe the birth centenary of Samar Mukherjee stated that Samar Mukherjee has dedicated his life to the party. It is indeed a rare fact that a party leader is becoming a centenarian in his life and that has influenced us taking the decision to observe his 100th birthday this year. The whole programme will be organized at the 9, Dilkhusa Street commune where the legend leader resides.

While sketching the life of Samar Mukherjee, Biman Basu stated that in earlier days of freedom struggle he participated actively in freedom struggle and became member of Pradesh Congress Committee during. Later being attracted to the Communist Ideologies he became a member of Communist Party in 1940. Since then he remained Polit Bureau member of the party, Chairman, Central Control Commission, party leader in the Parliament, and General Secretary CITU etc. He still remains an invitee member to the party Central Committee.

About the reason behind why party except for Kakababu (Mujaffar Ahmed) does not observe birthday of any leadership, Biman Basu explained that it was an exceptional situation the party was facing in 1963 when party existed in three separate wings. Some of the leaderships were in custody, some in underground, and a few were working openly. It was very difficult to organize programmes overtly to propagate ideological issues. So the leaderships in jail and underground have unanimously decided to observe the birthday of Kakababu as a weapon to propagate the political ideological issues.
